Awards and achievements

Yesterday was our longest day’s ride yet – 76 miles (121km). Set off from Dannevirke at 7.10am and got to Taradale at about 3pm.

Feeling a bit stiff at the end but after a shower, bit of a rest… and a stiff G&T, we were back on our feet for last night’s ShelterBox talk.

ShelterBox’s achievements are also getting some major international recognition – in the US, founder Tom Henderson was last week awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his efforts to provide shelter, warmth and dignity to survivors of disasters worldwide.

And, in the UK, ShelterBox was named Charity of the Year at the 2011 JustGiving Awards in London. JustGiving, an online fundraising platform, hold the awards each year as a way of recognizing outstanding individuals, teams and charities.

  1. You two also deserve major international recognition! Keep up the great work! Hope you are enjoying your NZ leg! Thinking of you from your starting point…

    • NZ is wonderful. Been twice before so were glad this trip gave us an excuse for another visit. Hills are tougher than North America but the scenery & people compensate. Ice creams are pretty good too!
